Rockman Funeral HomeLonnie Marvin Cady, aged 76, has passed away at peace to end his battle with cancer on the afternoon of September 20, 2025 in the nursing home in Chester.
Lonnie was born on March 22, 1949 in Havre to Swede and Esther Cady. He was the sixth of their seven children. He was raised on the family farm ten miles north of Inverness. He spent all of his school years attending the Inverness School where he graduated in 1967. He married Linda Connor in April 1971 and they then raised their children on the family farm north of Inverness. They were later divorced.
He farmed and raised cattle there for several years. In 1995 he changed his work focus to doing some construction, mainly dirt work. Many people in the community have had him tear down and bury rock piles and old structures or begin new construction by digging in and leveling foundations. There are lots of stories of him “eyeballing” in very level basements and foundations. He took great pride in being good at working. Work was always his greatest focus and he did work very hard. For fun he hunted some and enjoyed quite a few ice fishing afternoons. One of his favorite things to do was just drive around the country to see what had changed. One of his favorite drives was around the Sweet Grass Hills. In these latest years he almost always had his best buddy, Charlie Brown (his dog), along everywhere he went. They were rarely seen apart. He did spend a considerable amount of time with his three grandchildren as they grew up and they all have great stories of spending time and learning interesting things with him.
Lonnie was a lifelong member of this community and will be noticeably missed. He is preceded in death by both parents; Elmer (Swede) and Esther Cady; brother, Lloyd; sister, Frances; and infant son, Michael.
Lonnie is survived by his children, Lisa (John) Standiford and Lonnie (Kim) Cady all of Inverness; grandchildren, Maverick (Morgan) Cady of Inverness, Cady Miles of Great Falls, Javin Miles of Inverness; great grandson, Gunner of Inverness; sisters, Joyce Sedivy, Darla Cook, Marla Warden, and Bonnie Fraser; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 at the Inverness Bar and Supper Club.
