Lonnie E. Elbers

Lonnie Elbers, 95, died on June 21, 2025, in Lansing. MI on the 4-month anniversary of her husband's death. She was born on May 25, 1930, in Lansing Township the daughter of Flossie and Frederick Sussex. Lonnie graduated from LCC as an LPN and worked for John Hoyt, MD, and Ingham Medical Hospital. She later earned an Associate's Degree in Social Work from LCC. On December 20, 1968, Lonnie married Arthur Elbers and together they created 56 years of cherished memories. She loved to travel with her husband in the United States and Canada. Listening to music and reading books brought her joy every day. Hobbies that she enjoyed included knitting, crocheting, and sewing which she taught to her daughters. Lonnie was a member of greater Unity of Lansing.
She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Carol Mills and John and Nancy Elbers; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica and Charles Gunn, Elizabeth and Michael Droste, Karen and Robert Aldenhuysen, and Carol and Kenneth Wils; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Arthur Elbers; and her daughter and son-in-law Christine and Raymond Smyer.
Lonnie's children would like to send their gratitude to the staff at the Stoneleigh Residence for their exceptional care for their mother in her final months.
