Lonnie David Green, age 83, while surrounded by his family, died peacefully on 12/3/2025. He went home to the Lord after a 3 year battle with cancer.
Born January 3, 1942, in
Burlington, Iowa; the first of two sons born to Loren "Bud" and Virginia Green. In his youth his interests were baseball, basketball, football, bowling, hunting, and just being outdoors. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1960; became a bricklayer, served in the U.S. Navy, attended college and then met the love of his life. On August 31, 1968 he married Marcia H. Senn in
Burlington, IA. The next year he graduated from Iowa State University with an associate's degree in construction and began his 26-year career with Alcoa in the Construction Division. This career took them from IA to VA, AL, KY, Brazil, NY and finally ending up in Texas. They welcomed a son, David (1975) and daughter, Gina (1978) during this first season of life.
In January 1993 at the age of 51 he gave his life to Jesus and was born again. This time into the Spiritual Kingdom as a child of God. Life began to change as his desires began to shift focus to following, serving, and sharing Jesus Christ. At age 53 he was laid off from working for Alcoa. This opened a new season of life using his gifts for God's glory through volunteer construction ministry. With the sale of the house and purchase of RV, this season lasted 20 years and included ministries such as serving with the Down Home Ranch; building youth camps with Campers on Mission; laying brick and building churches with TX Baptist Men; and serving on various Disaster Relief projects. The brick laying ministry took him to places around the world like Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Bulgaria, and Ethiopia. Full time RV living came to an end with the building of a small home in a RV retirement community in Lindale, TX allowing more time with his own children and eight grandkids as well as serving in his community.
December 2022 is when his battle with cancer began. During these trials and treatments is when his faith was strengthened. 1 Peter 5:6-7 was a meaningful Scripture as he was learning about how to be humble, have compassion for others, and not be anxious. He was a man of great faith and when friends asked how he was able to handle it all, he would often say "By the love of the Lord, the prayers of the saints, strong support of family and friends, and a little help from modern medicine". He fought the good fight (2 Tim 4:7-8) and anyone who knew him, knew he loved Jesus. Beyond loving his family, he had a deep love for the Word of God and could often be seen reading and studying his Bible. He also had a deep love for the souls of men and could be heard sharing Jesus with whomever would listen.
He is leaving a massive godly legacy. Lonnie is survived by beloved wife Marcia Green. Son David Green (Sheri) of Austin, TX. Daughter Gina Dickerson (Tom) of Malawi, Africa. Grandchildren: Sarah, Zef, Jeremy, Titus, Zachary, Naomi and two step grandkids, Justin and Andrea. Brother: Thomas Green of Macomb, IL. He also leaves behind one great-grandchild coming in 2026.
Family and friends are invited to join in Lonnie's visitation and memorial service on Friday 12/12/2025 at 10am at Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church, 13073 Hwy 110 N Tyler, Texas 75704.
