Lonnie James Wright Sr. was born in Cordele, Georgia on March 29, 1936 to his parents, Elean Peterson and Booker Wright. He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized. Mr. Wright attended schools in Jasper, Florida and received his education at Hamilton County Schools. Mr. Wright worked for the City of Jacksonville and in later years after his tenure transition to the Duval County School Board where he retired after 26 years of service. He later met and married Ruth Wright in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Wright departed this life on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 and was preceded in death by his parents, Booker T. Wright and Elean Peterson and one sister, Gloria Jean Kaymore.
The last four years of Mr. Wright's life, he resided with his daughter, Vanessa Wright, in Baker County. Mr. Wright was full of life, love to sing, and a big jokester. He had a special type of love for his great grandchildren that only they knew the bond they had with one another. He made a lot of friends in Baker County especially at the Circle K store, where the employees knew him and looked out for his wellbeing when he visited the store unexpectedly. Mr. Wright pastored at his church, Grand Park Missionary Baptist Church (Jacksonville), many years until his health declined. He had a love for preaching the word of God all the way until his transitioning. His well-known saying is: THIS OLD BODY IS GRADUALLY TRANSITIONING IN TO MY NEW BODY. He spoke of this saying often and now he is in his new body with our Lord and Savior.
Mr. Lonnie Wright leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Ruth Wright; children: son, Lonnie (Ace) Wright Jr. and daughters: Vanessa James (Wesley) and Malissa Wright; grandchildren: Marquis and George Jones, Ashlee Killian (Cory); eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Maelene Gibbs, Maebelle Rowry, and Lola Wright; one brother, Ellis James; and a host of other relatives, cousins, and friends
