Lorence "Larry" Leeks, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 4, 2025, at Franciscan Health of Michigan City, Indiana.
He was born on March 27, 1954, to Mr. Dan Leeks and Mrs. Oretta (nee Thomas) Leeks.
Larry's journey began in the same town where he would later leave his indelible mark. He attended Michigan City Area Schools and proudly graduated from Rogers High School in 1973. His commitment to his country was evident when he enlisted in the United States Army immediately after graduation. During his service, Larry was recognized for his marksmanship and dedication, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge (M-16), and the Sharpshooter Badge (Grenade). Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Michigan City, where he embarked on a successful career as a trade mechanic and truck driver, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
In the autumn of 1975, Larry's life was forever changed when he married the love of his life, Faith V. Williams. Their union, just shy of 50 years, was a testament to their unwavering love and commitment to each other. Together, they raised three beloved children: Mr. Torrance Leeks of Ft. Wayne, Mrs. Tracey (Melvin) Williams of St. Louis, and Miss Paige Leeks of Michigan City. Larry's legacy continued to grow with the birth of his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy.
On April 5, 1992 in Michigan City, IN Lorence was baptized at First Baptist Church of Lakeland by Pastor Howard Daniel.
Larry was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
Larry's siblings, Robert L. (Beverly) Leeks Sr., Emma Cobb, Doris Leeks, John (Mary Alviar) Leeks, Ernie (Violet) Leeks, Brenda (Bob) Zondor, and Carl (Terri) Leeks, will remember him as a guiding force and loving brother. His nephews, nieces, will forever cherish the memories they created with Larry, who was often seen as a father figure by many. He is also survived by his cousins, close friends David Sneed, David Farmer and Charles Sparkman and the Lakeland Community.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Oretta Leeks; siblings Nathaniel Leeks, Ernestine Leeks-Milton, Ruthy Leeks-Woodley, and Willie James Leeks; nephew Eric Milton.
Larry lived his faith through his actions and the love he showed to others. His interests were a reflection of his warm and engaging personality. An avid fisherman, he found peace and by the water. His skill at barbequing was unmatched, and his love for landscaping turned his home into a welcoming oasis for family and friends. Larry's laughter often filled the room as he enjoyed his favorite television shows, from the classic humor of "Mash" and "The Andy Griffith Show" to the spirited comedy of "Martin."
