Loretta J. (Coveney) Avenell, of Medford, passed away on Saturday, January 3rd. She was 68. Born in Cambridge, she was the cherished daughter of Dolores (Cabral) and the late Francis Coveney.

Loretta was a dedicated to her children and worked hard for them despite her disabilities. She enjoyed playing cards especially poker, planning family gatherings, solving crossword puzzles and making handmade ceramics which she would proudly gift to her family and friends. An avid sports fan Loretta loved the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Loretta was the beloved wife of 44 years to Richard T. Avenell of Medford. She was the devoted mother of Ricky Avenell of Medford, and Lisa Avenell of Boston. She was the dear sister of Dan Coveney and his wife Susan of North Reading, and David Coveney and his wife Donna of Woburn. She was the dear daughter in-law of the late Ruth Giudice and her late husband Francis. She was the caring sister in-law of Joseph Avenell and his wife Joanne, Robert Avenell and his wife Patricia, and Rita Coiro and her husband Ron. Loretta is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Loretta's family would like to thank all staff members at RegalCare at Glen ridge for the care and compassion Loretta received during her stay.

Loretta's funeral will from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday, January 12th, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday, January 11th, from 4 to 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Loretta's name to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Inc., 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
