Loretta Carmody, 2024, 98 of Carrollton passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Jerseyville Manor. She was born July 19, 1926 in Fort Russell Township in Madison County, the daughter of Henry and Anna Smola Ukena. She married Carl Carmody November 25, 1950 in Alton and he preceded her in death October 28, 2014.
She is survived by a daughter, Carla Carmody of Gainesville, FL, three sons, Tim (Joyce) Carmody of Springfield, Terry (Cathy) Carmody of Sioux Falls, SD, John (Louise) Carmody of Roodhouse, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary Catherine Carmody, a granddaughter, Shannon Carmody, and six siblings, Novella Brockman, Coletta Dalton, Evelyn Tague, Virgil Ukena, Vernon Ukena, and Kenneth Ukena.
Loretta worked as an office secretary at Glass Works in Alton and Empire Gas in Carrollton. She was a 75-year member of the Catholic Daughter of America at St. John's Catholic Church in Carrollton. She was an avid animal lover. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and walking.
Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at St. John's Catholic Church in Carrollton with burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery in Carrollton. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass Tuesday at the church.
