Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri - Kansas City on Aug. 9, 2024.
Loretta Elizabeth Cassidy (Slavin) passed away peacefully the morning of July 28, 2024, at the age of 90 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born December 9, 1933, and was raised in the Bronx, New York. The oldest of three to Patrick and Mary Slavin, both immigrants from Ireland. She attended 12 years of Catholic School and never missed a school Dance! That is where she met the love of her life, James Francis Cassidy Jr. They were married December 26, 1953, and blessed with 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. From the Bronx to Indianapolis to Kansas City to Phoenix, and back to Kansas City. Loretta lived a very full and blessed life.
Loretta truly was one of those people who left you feeling better than when you came. If asked, she always gave the most valuable, straightforward advice. She was smart, humble, and lived in the present. Loretta, without a doubt, was a vessel of the Holy Spirit because her words were exactly what the soul needed to hear. Along with being the kindest person, she was also the most playful. She always wanted to play games, many that she created herself! She was the joke teller of the family, and in her later years, the ringer of darts and the BINGO Queen. Loretta radiated joy! She truly had a child-like disposition the Bible talks about that we all need to enter the gates of Heaven. Everything was new and exciting, even at 90 years old. She was a woman of steadfast faith, especially as she endured the loss of two sons, Jimmy, and Luke. She set an example by how well she loved others. Her love for her husband was like no other. Loretta's favorite line was, "God has been good to me".
She was so thankful. Our heroes, Jim, and Loretta, they belong together. After eleven years apart, we trust and pray they are together, forever. If you were blessed enough to know Loretta Cassidy, you were blessed enough. She is missed entirely. She passed down her faith to her family, which instills within us the hope that she is now receiving her eternal reward in Heaven. We shall one day spend eternal life together, with her.
Loretta is proceeded in death by her husband Jim, sister Frances Slavin and two sons, James Cassidy III, and Luke Cassidy. She is survived by her brother James Slavin (Sherry), son, Stephen Cassidy, daughters, Theresa Lester, Maryann Westhues (Mark), and Eileen Puckett (Mark). 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren: Jenifer Cassidy (Ty), Chad Cassidy (Liam, Annabel, and Aiden), Michael Cassidy (Michael, Parker, and Avery), Erin Lopez (John), Christen Berry, Ryan Westhues (Joseph, John, and Juliana), Eileen Rowe (Isla, Penelope and Scarlett), Andrew Lester, Luke Cassidy, Shelby Ayala (Emma, Mila and Jude), Jacob and Emily Savino.
