Loretta Elizabeth Maplesden, 100 years old, of Norwich, CT, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday March 27, 2024 at William W. Backus Hospital where she received phenomenal care by all staff.
Loretta was born at home in Montville on March 7,2024 to Roderick and Florence (Chapel) Lawless. She had two brothers, John and Roderick who predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter,Jane (Russell) Smith.Grandchildren, John (Jane) Barry, Henry (Tawnya) Hoyle, Jeff (Sheri) Barry, Hillery (Clayton) Errett, Chelsea (Rick) Kalil, Kathryn (Kevin) Maderia and Allison (Ryan) Small. 14 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Maplesden, daughter, Donna Counihan, son, Charles "Chuck" and daughter Lynn Barry.
Family and friends are grateful to have celebrated a 100th birthday party with Loretta, at which time she was well and sharing her zest for life as usual.
Loretta was a faithful servant of God. She will always be remembered as the A #1 fish supper waitress at Saint James Episcopal Church in Preston. She cherished
her weekly gatherings throughout the years with her sewing circle ladies. Such a delightful group who produced very beautiful quilts, crafts and knitting projects. We
would get a kick out of this group because they would all be talking at once and it was hard to figure out who was talking to whom. They sure had it figured out while producing their beautiful handiwork.
Loretta's charismatic smile and positive outlook will be greatly missed. Her life was rich in love and her inspiration extended beyond her immediate family
to encompass a wide network of loved ones.
May she Rest In Peace.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 5 at Maplewood Cemetery located at 184 Salem Turnpike, Norwich.
