Lori Maughon Obituary
Lori Anne Maughon, 67, went to be with her Lord and Savior late in the evening of January 2, 2026. She passed away at home in Ooltewah after a two-year battle with ALS. She will be a dearly missed wife, mother, sister, teacher, and grandmother.
She was the sort of person who brightened the room upon entry. Lori loved to express herself creatively and was singing as often as not, whether in church or just around the house, where many of her old paintings still hang. But the defining feature of her life was her desire to model the love of Christ, which could be seen in every aspect of her life.
In the community where she lived, she served neighbors and touched the lives of many. Her passion for helping others was especially evident in the love and attention she showed teaching K-4th graders for over 25 years with an extra focus on children with special needs at numerous schools, including Silverdale Academy, Chattanooga Christian School, Brown Academy, and through the Tennessee Early Intervention System. She was often one of the first to arrive at school and the last to leave, despite arthritis and other ailments; she never gave less than her best.
She shared an even greater love with her family -- her husband of nearly 48 years, Felton, her children Joshua (Julie) and Joseph (Virginia) and two precious granddaughters, one from each son, as well as her sister, Karen, and two step-parents, all of whom survive her. She truly showed what the ideal of a Proverbs 31 woman could be. Lori was preceded in death by her father, Richard Buffington, and mother Wanda Hawes.
The family will receive friends 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. Friday, January 9, 2026, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday January 10, 2026 at New Shepherd Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Felton Maughon officiating. She will lie-in-state at the church from 12:00 P.M. until service time.
Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel.
