Lori Frederick, age 77, of Tawas City, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2025.
Born Feb. 25, 1948 in Ironwood and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Lori built a life centered on family and faith. While pursuing her associate degree in clerical training at Ferris State University, she met Richard "Dick" Frederick on a blind date while he attended Lake Superior State University – and their love grew from there. They were married on Aug. 24, 1968, and their 56-year partnership became the foundation of a warm, welcoming household filled with constant support for one another.
In 1981, the Frederick family relocated to Tawas City, where they became deeply rooted in the community. Lori devoted herself to raising her children and supporting Dick's career with the Michigan State Police. Later in life and after raising her children, she pursued her lifelong passion for nursing, returning to school at Kirtland Community College. In her 50s she proudly earned her LPN and became a registered nurse, serving patients with compassion until her retirement in 2005.
Lori's hobbies reflected her nurturing spirit. She found joy in baking, crocheting, gardening, caring for animals, and above all, time with family. She was a woman of strong faith and an active member of Tawas Methodist Church, where she participated in countless meals, events, and fellowship. Lori will be remembered for her kindness, faith, and love as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend.
Lori is survived by her children, Jeri (Dennis) Decator, Jennifer (Chad) Katterman, and David (Leslie) Frederick; grandchildren, Brandon, Katie, John, Ashley, and Lizzie; sister, Jackie (Mike) Christie; nieces and nephews, Michael (Angela) Christie, Jerome Roebuck, Becki Jo Brooks, and Michelle (Nick) Van Handel; and sister-in-law, Kay (Ron) Gotwalt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Frederick; parents, Robert and Helvi (Kyrola) Stevens; brother, Robert Stevens; nephew, Steven Christie; father-in-law, Arland Frederick; mother-in-law, Laura Frederick; and sister-in-law, Jaci Frederick.
Per Lori's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Tawas Methodist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Dick in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Tawas City.
