Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rowe Funeral Home and Crematory - Grand Rapids on Jan. 12, 2026.
Lou Ann (Chalich) Rice, age 60, was born on September 11, 1965, and passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.

Lou was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to George and Lucille Chalich. She was united in marriage to Donald "Tyke" Sidney Rice Jr. on October 4th, 1986. Together, they built a life centered on family and love, raising their children, Savannah Rice, Theresa (Colton) Villeneuve, and Richard (Sara) Rice, and cherished her beloved grandson Javic Doyle-Rice.

Lou was an amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She never missed a birthday or a special occasion and was always there whether by call text or in person to celebrate the people she loved above all else. Lou was an exceptional grandmother and great grandmother her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she treasured every moment with them.

Lou fought a hard and faithful battle with COPD, leaving this world far too soon.

She is survived by her husband Tyke Rice, her children Savannah Rice, Theresa (Colton) Villeneuve, and Richard (Sara) Rice, her grandson Javic Doyle-Rice, step children Larry (Laura) Rice, Justin Rice, Jesse Rice, and Victoria Nurmi, grandchildren Tara and Memphis Randall, Braxton and Piper Villeneuve, Wesley and Dixie Rice, Michael Nurmi, Thomas Kleimendorst, Cheyenne (TJ) Blankenship, Conway Rice, Carlina (Dillion) Rogers and Reyna Rice, and her great grandchildren River, Walter, Rowen, Brandon, Kason, and Tyke.

She also survived by her brothers George (Carol) Chalich, Mike (Peggy) Chalich, sister-in-law Stephanie Chalich, mother-in-law Louise Rice and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Lou was proceeded in death by her parents, George and Lucille Chalich, her brothers Douglas, and Joseph Chalich, sister-in-law Cheryl Chalich and father-in-law Donald Sidney Rice Sr.

Lou carried a special light in her candle of life - one that when extinguished, left and immeasurable hole in the heart of her family. Her love, devotion and presence will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
