Louis Alverson Obituary

Louis R. Alverson, age 83, a lifelong resident of Oscoda, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025 in Saginaw.
He was born in Tawas City on Feb. 21, 1942 to the late Louis and Leona Alverson (Schaaf). Lou graduated from Oscoda Area High School in 1960 and began working in the masonry and concrete industry. His career started with his father and continued for over three decades.
Lou also owned and operated A&M Sports in East Tawas from 1992 until 2006 when he retired. His loved for sports was an important part of his life. Lou excelled at football, baseball, basketball and track in high school and had the distinct honor of be inducted into the Oscoda High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022.
He was a longtime men's league softball player and he spent more than 30 years playing well in local golf leagues. Lou loved watching all sports, bowling, traveling and tending to his vegetable garden.
He is survived by the love of his life, Sharleen Crooks; his daughter, Jody (John) Ludwig of Tennessee; son Danny (Terry) Alverson of New York; step children, John Crooks of Tennessee, Mark (Patricia) Crooks of Oscoda and Sherry Crooks of New York; sister, Barbara Odin of Arizona; sister, Leona (Gary) Russell of Florida; brother, Howard (Penny) Alverson of South Carolina; and sister, Janet (Dave) Herchenroeder of Arizona. Lou is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Alverson; and wives, Sandy and Mary Ann.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda with Rev. Tom Harvey officiating. Condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
