Louis P Cox Jr.

Louis P. Cox, Jr, 83 of Ocala, Florida went to his final rest on February 8, 2026, while in hospice care. Louis was born in Williston, Florida to Doris and Louis P. Cox on November 26, 1942. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Education in 1964 and again in 1974 with a Pharmacy degree. While is college he met the love of his life Amy, and they were married in Brandon, Fl on December 27, 1964, by Louis' grandfather Rev. A.G. Cox. Louis and Amy, who he always affectionately referred to as, "his first wife" were married 61 years before his passing. Louis taught at Gainesville High School and later ran a pharmacy with his wife in Belleview Florida. He retired while working as a pharmacist for Publix. In 1981, he was a founding member of the Belleview Chapter of Rotary International and devoted many years to the organization. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his mountain home in North Carolina.

Louis is survived by his wife, Amy Cox; his children and their spouses, Shelley Cox Eckels and Anthony Gerber, Brian and Dana Cox, and Carin Cox Miller and Rob Miller; his siblings and their spouses, Clifford and Kathy Cox, and Sylvia Cox Edmundson and Larry Edmundson; and he is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Davis, Louis Kamm, Callie, Henley, James, Brandon and Amy Rae; and lastly, his ever-faithful dog "Gator."

A visitation gathering in lieu of a formal service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m. at Hiers-Baxley, 5946 SE Robinson Road, Belleview, FL 34421. Thereafter, Louis' ashes will be returned to nature at his much-beloved property near Bat Cave, North Carolina.
