Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boucher Funeral Home on Dec. 1, 2025.
Louis "Lou" V. Guillet, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Saillant) Guillet. Together they shared 57 years of marriage prior to Marge's death in 2018. Lou was the eldest son of the late Louis, Sr. and Rita (Barras) Guillet of Woonsocket, RI.
He leaves his daughters, Ann Morency of Vernon, CT, Michelle Helmin of Woodstock, CT and Renee McCutcheon of
Pascoag, RI, and his son, David of Woonsocket, RI. Along with his sons-in-law, Thomas Morency and David Helmin, he leaves six grandchildren including Lauren Hollinger, Katelyn Morency, Andrew and Elisabeth Helmin, and Madison and Kelsey McCutcheon.
Lou grew up in Woonsocket on Arlington Street along with his siblings, Aline Folding of Harwich, MA, Madeleine Dickie of Bluffton, SC, and Jeanne Merlet and Pierre Guillet of Woonsocket, RI. He is predeceased by his brothers, Paul and Robert, and his sister, Jacqueline Allard.
Lou was a devout Catholic and for many years was a parishioner at St. Joseph's Church and St. Agatha's Church in Woonsocket and most recently at St. Theresa's Church in Nasonville, RI.
As a young man, Lou worked for Consumers and Beauchemin Oil then General Dynamics where he directed welding services at its Quincy and Groton shipyards. In the early 1970s, he and a partner began D&G Plumbing and Heating Company, which he owned and operated until his retirement. After retirement, Lou worked part time for Mundy's Florist and International Autoparts. In 1976, Lou and Marge moved to Nasonville to a home that they built to better suit their family's needs. Lou was especially proud of his home and took great pride in sharing stories about how his family helped in the building process.
After a life-long love of cars, Lou purchased and restored a 1962 Austin Healey, which he drove throughout the northeast as part of the Austin Healey Club of New England. He and Marge attended car rallies where he won awards for his restoration work. Lou also drove his Austin on the racetrack at Limerock and made many visits to part swaps in Pennsylvania and other locations. A red 1957 Austin Healey restoration project remains and is ready for its next owner.
With his family Lou enjoyed camping and an occasional trip to the ocean and nearby lakes. For several years, he and Marge volunteered at PPAC. He read two daily newspapers from the first page to the last, and he was a voracious consumer of the History channel. Like his mother, Lou was an avid Red Sox fan and he enjoyed watching New England Patriots games throughout the fall. Lou took great pride in his grandchildren, and the success they earned through hard work in the classroom, on sports fields and courts, through artistic endeavors and in the success they are beginning to realize in their chosen careers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11 AM in St. Theresa's Church, Nasonville, RI to honor and celebrate Lou's life. Inurnment will follow in the parish cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
