Louis Isern Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Aug. 24, 2024.
Louis (Lou) J. Isern, Jr. passed away on August 17, 2024 at the age of 88. He is survived by his former spouse, Lorraine Ritchie, his loving children, Shawn Marie Isern and Christopher Louis Isern, his devoted cousin, Albert J. Kearney (Theresa), and his dear nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, and friends.
Lou was born in Delaware County to the late Louis and Florence Isern (nee Kearney). The family soon moved to Philadelphia where Lou would reside for his lifetime. He graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School and Villanova University before proudly enlisting in the United States Air Force where he served honorably until his discharge.
While in the Air Force, Lou was stationed in Japan, which sparked a lifelong appreciation for Japanese art, history, and culture. Lou was an avid reader with a passion for aviation and military history. He had varied interests and hobbies including building model airplanes, restoring antique cars, and collecting baseball cards and militaria. Lou loved to travel and visited many destinations within the United States and abroad.
Lou was a devoted sports fan who enjoyed having a beer while cheering on his beloved Phillies, Eagles, and Manchester United. He passed along his love of sports to his children who have many happy memories of spending game day with their Dad. Lou was a devoted father and he will be greatly missed by his children and all who loved him.
Family and friends are invited to Lou's Life Celebration on August 28, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lou's name to the Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org).
