Louis E. Moroni

Louis E. Moroni, 95, of Kingsford, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born July 24, 1916 in Iron Mountain, son of the late Mario and Clara (Valerio) Moroni. Louis was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1936. He married Gertrude Neldberg on May 10, 1939 at the American Martyr's Church in Kingsford. Louis worked at the Norway Current, Ford Motor Company, and for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He retired at the age of 62 and enjoyed helping his son for many years with his construction business. Louis was a family man and enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. He also liked to play cards. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Domenic Badini, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Sinks and Pat (Robert) Packham, and brother-in-law, Ronald Neldberg, He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Mary) Moroni of Iron Mountain and Thomas (Michel) Moroni of Woodbury, Minn.; one daughter, Jill (Robert Imel) Johnson of Kingsford; his grandchildren, Jane Moroni of Iron Mountain, Jennifer (Greg "Chip") Anderson of Kingsford, Dan Moroni of Las Vegas, Kate Moroni of St. Paul, Minn., Angela (Andrew) Coan of Aurora, Wis. and Bryan (Amy) Johnson of Iron Mountain; five great-grandchildren, Michael and Ben Anderson and Drew and Brookelyn Coan, and Jaxsen Johnson; one sister, and Barbara (Reuben) Hamari of Iron Mountain; sister-in-law, Betty Neldberg, brother-in-law and sister in law, Bob (Monica) Neldberg, brother-in-law, Doug Sinks, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 9:30 am until 10:30 am Monday, Dec. 19, 2011 at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at the American Martyr's Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
