Louie was born on November 21, 1956, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Franklin and Sarah (Thomas) Myers. He was raised in Cairo, and graduated from Centura High School in 1975.
On December 20, 1975, he married the cutest cheerleader and love of his life, Rhonda Jean Brandt. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Heather and Jared. The two made their home in Cairo after their time in Hastings, where Louie attended Hastings College. When they returned to Cairo, he farmed and fed cattle until he retired. After retirement, he enjoyed working at Centura Hills Golf Course and Hastings Grain Inspection.
In his younger years, Louie enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. He also loved classic rock, old country and John Wayne. One of his favorite memories was taking his family on a Canadian fishing trip. He excelled in sports throughout his life including football at Hastings College, baseball with the Boelus Town Team and basketball with the Kearney Rockets. Many summers were spent at the Platte Deutsch and traveling the country playing fast pitch softball. Louie also enjoyed golfing with his wife, though it was the one sport that left him frustrated. Over the years, he became an excellent club thrower. Rhonda beat him at golf for many years until he was able to move up to the gold tees! Rhonda also convinced Louie to take up dancing. Although he wouldn't always admit it, he enjoyed learning new dances and really was an excellent dancer.
Louie loved his children and grandchildren very much. He loved that his grandchildren also loved baseball and softball as much as he did. He even learned to love soccer because his granddaughter loved it. One of his favorite places was at the ballfields watching them play, and he didn't miss many opportunities to be there. Louie also loved to remind his son that he scored more points in one basketball game than Jared ever did, and that was before there was a three-point line.
Louie was quick-witted and maybe a little sarcastic. Over the years, if Louie teased you or gave you grief accented with a smile and a toothpick in his mouth, know that he considered you a friend. He was lucky to have so many friends from different times in his life.
Louie's sister Laura was first diagnosed with Leukemia in 1981. Louie spent several months in Iowa while she went through treatments, and was very proud that he could help his sister as a bone marrow donor. He was equally as proud to have his granddaughter Laura named after his sister.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, 10 months and 5 days, Rhonda; daughter, Heather (Dan) Piersol of Cairo; son, Jared (Hillary) Myers of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Jack Piersol, Laura Piersol, Emery Myers and Maddox Myers; sisters, Linda (Bill) Zahl, Louise (Jim) Ford, Leanne (Jim) Whetstone; and brother-in-law, Ron (Linda) Hargens. Also surviving him is Rhonda's family, including her mother, Yvoone Brandt; brothers, Jerry (Sonja) Huebner, Chuck (Lisa) Brandt, and Todd (Theresa) Brandt. Along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Sarah; sister, Laura Hargens; great nephew, Ryker Brandt and nephew in-law, Wade Meyer.
