Louis J. Parisi ObituaryLouis J. Parisi, 99, of Loch Arbour, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Born in Jersey City, Lou was a graduate of St. Peter's Prep and St. Peter's College, with Master's degrees from New York University and Monmouth University.
At seventeen and while still in high school, he joined the N. J. State Guard. Upon graduating from high school in 1944, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served and was injured in battle in the Pacific Theater, receiving a Purple Heart for actions on Okinawa.
His career as an educator spanned more than 42 years. In Jersey City, he taught at St. Peter's Prep and St. Peter's College. In 1955, he was accepted as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher, teaching English at St. Aloysius College in The Hague, Netherlands. Lou continued his teaching career after moving to Loch Arbour in 1970, and was employed by the Freehold Regional High School District as an English Supervisor. He was also the Director of the Summer Title I Program and Assistant Principal of the Summer High School. For four years he was the Principal of Secular Studies at the Talmudical Academy in Howell. In 1999, Lou was inducted into Legends of the Prep as an Outstanding Teacher.
Lou was actively involved in the parish life of Holy Spirit Church in Asbury Park. A catechist, lector, and extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, he also served terms as the President of the Holy Name Society and the Parish Council. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition, Lou also played a meaningful role in the Village of Loch Arbour, serving on the Board of Trustees and filling a term as Mayor. For more than 25 years, he served on the Planning Board as chairman and member. He was the liaison to the Ocean Township and Deal Police for Loch Arbour's Neighborhood Watch.
After his retirement from teaching, Lou devoted much of his time to veterans' affairs. Membership in the Marine Corps League was followed by leadership roles in the Catholic War Veterans Post 714, the Veterans Alliance of Asbury Park and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1333. He filled every office in each of these veterans' organizations from Trustee to Commander. He was the Chaplain for District Six of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Advisory Council for the Monmouth County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans Affairs. For his service to the community, Lou was made an Honorary Member of the Asbury Park Policemen's Benevolent Association.
Lou was predeceased by his daughter, Michele, in 1993. He is survived by his wife Gloria of 76 years (making them the longest living married couple in NJ as of July 2024); his sons Louis, of Ocean Grove; Gregory, of Millsboro, DE, and Glenn of South Plainfield; and his daughters, Patrice Revell, of Virginia Beach and Jeannine Parisi, of Eugene, Oregon. Lou was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lou was happiest when his dinner table was full, taking every opportunity to share a meal and a glass of wine with family and friends. Though he is at God's table now, he would be honored if those that know and love him would offer that hospitality around their tables as a remembrance to him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 2-6 pm at the Fiore-Buckley Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Asbury Park.
