Louis Reuschel Obituary

Louis Norman Reuschel, 94, of Golden, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025. A lifelong resident of Golden, Louis was born on July 14, 1930, and graduated from Golden Grade School in 1944. Following his education, he began farming-a vocation that became both his livelihood and legacy.

On October 30, 1950, Louis married Isabel Bruns, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and dedication to their community. He established Reuschel Farms and remained committed to sustainable agriculture and soil conservation throughout his life. In 1980, he and his family were honored with the Adams County Soil and Conservation District Outstanding Conservation Farm Family Award.

Louis was a man deeply devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His greatest desire was for others to know the boundless love of God. This passion permeated every part of his life, from his service as a Sunday School teacher and board member at Trinity Lutheran Church, to his inspirational talks as "The Singing Farmer," a role through which he joyfully shared his faith and humor with countless organizations and events.

A tireless community servant, Louis was active in the Golden Lions Club, served as a 4-H leader, and contributed his time to the Golden Good Shepherd Home Board and the Community Unit District No. 3 School Board. His leadership and kind spirit touched many lives.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Reuschel; his wife, Isabel, his brothers, Henry, George, and Ben; his sisters, Esther (Benhard) Buss, Leta (Clarence) Post, Mary (Ernest) Haschemeyer, Elda (Arnold) Gronewold, Dorothy (Bert) Ufkes, and Ruth (Irwin) Ideus, and his daughter, Brenda (Randy) Hess.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Greg) Schuchmann; his son, Jeffrey (Teri) Reuschel; grandchildren: Chad Schuchmann and Nikki Mercer, Corey Hess, Ellie Barko, and Andrew Reuschel; and great-grandchildren: Caleb and Berkley Schuchmann, Melani, Thierry, and Izzi Mercer, Emerson and Montgomery Hess, Braxton, Aniston, and Cayden Barko, and Everett, Alyda, and Arlie Reuschel.

Louis's legacy of faith, stewardship, and service will live on in the many lives he touched.

A Celebration of Louis' Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, Illinois.

The visitation will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with the service to follow at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial donations to be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Golden or Chaddock School in Quincy.

May 27, 2025

Earlier in his life, Louis contemplated whether or how to enter the ministry, and I know he spoke with my father (Rev. Earl Meissner) about that. Though Louis did not become an "official" pastor, he ministered to people around him for his lifetime, a light of genuine faithfulness. My parents, Rev. Earl and Phyllis Meissner, lived in Golden in the years 1957 -1960, yet maintained an amazing lifetime friendship with Louis and Isabel. Louis and my Dad were like brothers to each other, and it is partially on his and my Mother's behalf that I submit condolences for Louis's family, grateful for the enduring friendship they all shared. My own parents chose to be buried in Golden, and Louis was there to help bid them into God's hands. My parents' burial plots are right next to those of Isabel, and now Louis's.

I regret I cannot make it to Golden for Louis's service, as we were traveling and had to return to Denver the night before the service. Again, condolences to Jeff, Linda, and the entire family. I am grateful for your father's life and the lifetime friendship between our parents, and celebrate Louis's life of faithfulness and ministering to those around him.
