In Loving Memory of

Louis Wesley Smith

4/09/1942 - 6/06/2025

Louis Wesley Smith Jr. entered eternal life Friday June 6th at the age of 83. Lewis was born on April 9th 1942 in Saugerties, New York to Louis and Rachel Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Louis Fredrick. He is survived by his loving wife Yihui (Ya Bei), sons Paul (Kei) and John (Rosalyn), sister Sylvia, and grandchildren Elliott, Vanessa, and Zion.

As a faithful Catholic and a devoted father and husband, Louis' most important goal in life was to serve the Lord. He instilled into his sons and loved ones that God is loving, merciful, and forgiving. The legacy he left to Paul and John, for which they are very grateful, include faith, discipline, hard work, thoroughness, and dedication towards completing whatever task one is confronted with.

He proudly and professionally served as a heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers and as a truck driver. He volunteered by repairing convents and vehicles of Catholic schools, as a hospital Eucharistic minister, and as a member of the Legion of Mary. Louis was a very hard worker, thorough, and professional in all that he did. Well educated, Louis was a natural when it came to automotive, mechanics, and later in life to computers. He passed on his love of vintage trucks and heavy equipment to Paul and his love of airplanes and motorcycles to John. Louis enjoyed flying and was an accomplished general aviation pilot. Paul and John loved to hear his stories of family, work, and military service. He was a proud veteran serving in Vietnam with the 864th Heavy Engineer Battalion, US Army, which was responsible for port transportation, support facilities construction, missions of base camp construction, and line of communication construction and maintenance.

The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM with Mass to follow at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Rd., San Antonio, TX 78213. Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, shelter #2, with military honors.
