Louise Mason Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boston Cremation - Malden Care Center on Mar. 23, 2026.
Louise M. (Riel) Mason of Melrose passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Born on August 13, 1947, in Laconia, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Alicia Riel.

She was the beloved wife of Peter Mason of Melrose. Loving mother of Scott Mason and his wife Anne of New Orleans, Kevin Mason and his wife Michelle of Lynnfield, and Amy Camerlengo and her husband Mike of Lynnfield.

Cherished grandmother of Jane, Alex, April, and Mandy. Loving sister to David Riel. And dear friend to sister-in-law Judy Mason of Brookline.

Louise grew up in Weirs Beach, where her love for the lake began. After marrying Peter, the couple spent time living in Germany during his military deployment before eventually settling in Melrose to raise a family. Louise was a devoted and ever-present mother, attending countless band performances, track meets, soccer games, and hockey games. She took immense pride in her children and in the loving life she and Peter created together.

Louise was deeply involved in her community and believed strongly in giving back. She volunteered as a tutor and at the First Baptist Church food bank. She was also very active in the Melrose Recycling Committee, the Melrose Alliance Against Violence, the Melrose Human Rights Commission, and the Melrose League of Women Voters. Louise worked for the US. Department of Labor checking prices for the Consumer Price Index until her retirement.

Louise loved to travel, bake, and spend time with family and friends. She had an infectious smile and was quick to laugh. Her kind heart and easy-going nature will be missed by all who knew her.

There will be a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association
