Louise Meyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Cremation & Funeral Service - Sayre on Dec. 22, 2025.
Louise Barbara Meyer, 97, of Sayre passed away peacefully at the Elderwood Nursing Hospital
on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Louise enjoyed a full life and was loved by the many
whose lives she touched over her own lifetime.

Born on September 29, 1928, in Plymouth Township, PA, Luzerne County, she was the daughter
of the late Joseph Strazdus and Eva Kuchinsky Strazdus. Louise was predeceased by her husband of
68 years, Carl "Dutch" Meyer; her son, Mark Meyer; three sisters, Alberta, Florence, and Marian; and
her brother, Joseph Strazdus, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Sylvia Mangan of Hanover Township, PA;
her children Carl Meyer of Henryville, PA; Michael Meyer of Sayre; and Linda (Michael) Small of Whittier,
CA; and her beloved grandchildren…

Her loving grandchildren will also miss her and include: Talia Eve Meyer (Carl); Jessica Maris
and Alison Louise Meyer (Mark and Cheryl); Derek Meyer (Michael); and Dylan Michael and
Jason Carl Small (Linda and Michael). She will also be mourned by relatives from the Wilkes-
Barre/Scranton area of PA: Sylvia Mangan; Betty Strazdus, as well as numerous nieces and
nephews.

Louise graduated from Plymouth High School and later attended business school, which led to
government employment in Washington, DC.

Louise married her husband, Dutch, in 1950 following his U.S. Army service and studies at Bloomsburg
State Teachers College. They raised their family in the Valley, where Dutch served the Sayre School
District as a teacher, principal, and coach, and where Louise became deeply connected to the
community through schools, sports, and neighborhood life.

From a long line of seamstresses, Louise was an accomplished sewer who worked at the Blue Swan in
Sayre and later with the P&C Grocery chain as a cashier and customer service representative.
She was quite an accomplished bowler through the years with numerous 200+ games to her credit. She
enjoyed serving as League Secretary, traveling to tournaments, and competing with her friends at both
Luxury Lanes and Penn York Lanes. She earned many bowling pin trophies, plaques, pins, and patches
which have been fun to come across as wonderful reminders of the 1960's and '70's and the people she
met and became lifelong friends with.

She also enjoyed playing bingo at the many venues in the Valley and Elmira. Putting puzzles together,
playing cards, and of recent years, making regular trips to "the Downs" for fun with the slot machines
were also high on her list of favorites. Her time spent in these areas blessed her with many new friends
and acquaintances who came to know her as the affable, social, precocious, straight forward friend and
adopted mom she was.

Perhaps her most cherished vocation was with her own kids and grandchildren. Louise loved people as
she would often state, but she supported her kids like a Momma Lion and absolutely adored her
grandkids. She also gleaned great pleasure from her many nephews and nieces. Living close by and
influencing their current personalities and proclivities, Louise Meyer loved helping to raise her
grandchildren. They brought her closer to her own children and kept her young---even to her dying age
of 97.

Others who would like to join in a celebration of her life will be invited in the future to join the
family following the Christmas holidays. In line with her wish to be cremated, Louise would
have wanted any expressions of sympathy to involve donations/support in care of Stray
Haven/SPCA, 607/565-2859, 194 Shepard Road, Waverly, NY 14892; and/or the Epiphany
Roman Catholic Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of The Thomas Cremation and Funeral Service, 1297 Elmira St., Sayre, Pa.
