Louise "Doll" Shepard

Mother Louise Nixon Shepard, age 85, gently slipped into eternal peace on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Surrounded by love, she transitioned as gracefully as she lived-quietly, beautifully, and in God's perfect timing.

Born with a tender spirit and a giving heart, Mother Louise was affectionately known as "Doll," a name that reflected her sweet nature, her soft-spoken warmth, and the gentle way she moved through the world. She possessed a calming presence-one that could soothe worry, mend tired hearts, and make anyone feel welcome, whether they were family, friend, or a stranger simply passing through.

Mother Louise's greatest devotion, however, was to her family. She was motherly not only to her own but to anyone who needed guidance or a listening ear.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughters: Valerie Chestnut, Earlene Shepard, Karen Thomas, and Katrina Robinson (James); her beloved grandchildren: Jermaine Shepard, Michelle Daniels (Elton), Tatiana Thomas, Darius Hicks (Mary), and William Thomas; and her precious great-grandchildren: Kayla James, Brycin Hicks, Brennden Hicks, Jaylin Shepard, Cadence Daniels, Elic Daniels, Kingston Hicks, and Legacy Hicks. She is also survived by her loving sister, Rosa Jenkins (Arthur), as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and friends who will forever feel the imprint of her love.

A Homegoing Celebration honoring her beautiful life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. John A.M.E. Church, 861 St. Johns Church Road, Hampstead, NC 28443. Interment will follow in the St. John Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.

A viewing for relatives and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel, 810 West Wilmington Street, Burgaw, NC 28425.

Mother Louise cherished her daily moments, finding delight in the simple pleasures that made life sweet. She enjoyed attending the senior center, where she shared laughter, friendship, and competitive rounds of bingo with her friends. She had a soft spot for game shows like Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. And every afternoon, she faithfully tuned in to her beloved soap opera, General Hospital, a routine that brought her comfort and joy.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the memory of her gentle smile, her nurturing presence, and her unwavering love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Mother Louise "Doll" Shepard has earned her rest, yet her spirit will continue to blossom-in yellow and green-through the lives she touched, the love she gave, and the legacy she leaves behind.
