Lowell Martine Smith Jr., a dedicated family man, cherished law enforcement officer, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at the age of 77, in Lincoln, NM. Born on April 28, 1948, in Roswell, NM, Lowell lived a life rich in love, service, and passion.
Lowell proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1966 serving in countries such as Africa and Turkey prior to his honorable discharge in 1970. His commitment to service extended beyond the army as he built a fulfilling career in law enforcement, where he devoted himself to protecting his community in Plano, TX and beyond.
Lowell had a love for the Hondo Valley that began at young age with the family ranch raising sheep and maintaining a lovely apple orchard. Lowell had a special love for horses, finding joy in their companionship and grace. However, it was his family that brought him the greatest fulfillment. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Becky Smith, his cherished children, Tammie De Los Santos and her husband David, Zachary Head and his wife Lindsay. He adored his grandchildren Kassandra and Michael De Los Santos and is survived by his loving sister, Sharon “Sherry” Clarke, nephews, Mike and Steve Clarke, as well his niece Leslie K. Smith who loved him dearly.
Lowell found great happiness in his home with Becky in Lincoln, NM, where he created countless memories with his family and friends. His warm spirit, dedication to service, and love for his family will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at the Fort Stanton State Veterans Cemetery on December 1, 2025, at 1:30 PM.
