Luann E. Larson, 74, Moorhead, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 18, 2025, in Essentia Health, Fargo.
Luann Elizabeth Palma was born on February 2, 1951, in Fargo, ND, to Bill and Elizabeth Palma. Luann graduated from Moorhead High School in 1969 and further pursued her passion for sign language and the hearing impaired at Moorhead State College.
In a joyful celebration of love, Luann married her high school sweetheart, Delbert Larson, on June 26, 1971, at Grace United Methodist Church in Moorhead. Together, they shared a life filled with support and devotion. Following Del's academic pursuits, the couple moved to Rothsay, MN for his first teaching position before returning to Moorhead in 1975 where they began their family and welcomed three children, Don, Amanda and Heidi. She was a devoted mother who never missed an event.
Luann's career included roles at Moorhead Insurance and Scheels Hardware and Sporting Goods, where she dedicated many years of service until her retirement in 1994 due to her health challenges. Despite her medical diagnosis, Luann remained actively involved in her community, assisting Del with school projects and the annual wildlife excursions for students to Tamarac Wildlife Refuge near Detroit Lakes.
In the late 1990s, Luann became the Area Coordinator for Minnesota Special Olympics alongside Del, where she made a significant impact on the lives of many athletes who cherished her warm greetings and encouraging spirit. Her tenure with the organization lasted until 2005, when her health necessitated her retirement.
Faith was a cornerstone of Luann's life. An active member of Grace United Methodist Church, she participated in the choir and various church committees and shared regular devotions with Del.
As Del entered retirement, the couple embraced travel, often spending summers at their family lake cabin and creating fond memories in Arizona, which Luann regarded as her "happy place," where she formed lasting friendships, participated in daily activities, and took in new experiences until travel became too challenging in 2020.
In 2017, Luann and Del transitioned from their family home of three generations to a 55 and older community in Moorhead. Later, Luann chose to move to an assisted living facility. During her time at River Pointe, she thrived, actively participating in community events, enjoying Bingo at Vic's with her friends, and attending social gatherings, all while expressing her contentment with her new living arrangement.
Luann will be remembered and missed by her husband, Del; their children, Don (Grace) Larson, Amanda Larson, and Heidi (Chris) Stalboerger; nine grandchildren, Austin Graham (Jessica Schmidt), Raquel (Wyatt) Swanson, Santino Martin, Isis Martin, Oliva Larson (Ian Gorden), Maliek Larson, Emilee Stalboerger, McKayle Bahl and Jacoby Bahl; three great grandchildren, Zarah Gorden, Nikolai Gorden and Deagan Swanson; one brother, Bruce (Lisa) Palma; along with many nieces and nephews that called her “Auntie Lu”; and her sister in Christ, Barb Fraundorfer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Palma.
A memorial service for Luann will be Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11AM in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead. Visitation will be one hour prior.
