Luke Sweithelm

June 13, 1988-March 5, 2026

Fairfax-born, Pittsburgh-bred, Lucas "Luke" John Sweithelm passed away on March 5, 2026. He is survived by his parents, Jake and Joel Anne (Chabon) Sweithelm of Allison Park, PA, and sister Chelsea Sweithelm (jordan bailley), of Portland, OR, several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his furry best friend, Moe. He was preceded in death by Anne and Nicholas Chabon, Sr., Terese Chabon, Margaret and Ralph Sweithelm, Jr., Ralph Sweithelm III, Sean Sweithelm, Jim "Babe" Sweithelm, Bob Sweithelm, and Patricia "Sis" (Sweithelm) Fuchs.

Luke was born in Fairfax, VA, moving with his family to Lower Burrell, PA, when he was two years old, and later to Allison Park, PA, when he was six years old. He grew up in Shaler Township, where he loved to play sports, excelling in baseball, football, and basketball. He enjoyed playing outdoors, watching TV and movies, playing video games, listening to music, biking, and hanging out with friends.

After graduating from Shaler Area High School, Luke attended the Community College of Allegheny County, earning his associate's degree. He spent a memorable and impactful year in Fort Collins, CO, living with extended family, an experience he often spoke of fondly. Luke later returned to PA and briefly attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania to study Sport Management. He worked an array of jobs in the restaurant, retail, valet, and customer service industries.

Luke was creative, funny, athletic, and kind. He cherished spending quality time with his parents and adored their dogs, Colby and Moe. Luke was a Yinzer and an avid sports fan, rooting especially for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates, and the Pitt football team. He enjoyed creating art, writing, reading, practicing yoga, studying astrology, fashion, caring for animals, and ordering the most ridiculous dish on a restaurant menu (but rarely finishing it).

For most of Luke's adult life, he struggled with sobriety and mental health challenges. We remember Luke for his kind spirit and his strength in pursuing and maintaining his recovery. Rest in peace, Luke.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Animal Friends at thinkingoutsidethecage.org. Condolences can be shared at D'Alessandro Funeral Home & Crematory Ltd. at www.dalessandroltd.com.
