Lucien J.J. Jolin

Southbridge: Lucien J. J. Jolin, 90, passed away on Saturday, December 20th, in UMass Memorial Health – Harrington, Southbridge, surrounded by his family.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Jean (Fontaine) Jolin; his two children, Michelle J. Rosa and her husband Dominick of Northboro, MA and David L. Jolin and his wife Siripon of Woodstock, CT; his sister, Ruby Richardson of Winchester, MA; his three grandchildren, Nolan Rosa, Nathan Rosa and Angela Jolin, and many nieces and nephews. His son, Matthew Jolin passed away in 1968. He was also predeceased by his brother, Joseph 'Al' Jolin and his sister, Patricia Simonelli. Lucien was born in Southbridge the son of the late Jean B. and Bertrade (Gagne) Jolin. He was a US Navy Veteran. Lucien graduated Magna Cum Laude from Nichols College in 1970 with a BBA in Management. He also attended Western New England School of Law and studied Law Enforcement at Quinsigamond Community College.

Lucien was a longtime police officer with the Southbridge Police Department, starting with the force in 1959 and retiring as a Sergeant in 1992. He was the first Spanish speaking police officer on the Department and had a strong bond with the Spanish community in town. After retiring from the SPD, he went on to work for the Worcester County Sheriff's Department, from 1992 until 2000. He served on the Southbridge Town Council from 1994 to 1996.

Lucien was a longtime member of Notre Dame Parish (now St. John Paul II Parish) and enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. He also enjoyed playing piano and weightlifting as well as learning new languages. Lucien's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31st, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 11:00am in St. Mary's Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, 263 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in New Notre Dame Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30th, from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
