Lucienne Lee

Lucienne E Lee, 91, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away at Davis Hospice Center on December 8. She was born to John and Edythe on the family’s farm in New Salem, Pennsylvania in September 1934. She attended German Township High School and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas R. Lee, in Cumberland, Maryland in October 1952.

It was the Bell System that brought Lucienne and Tom to follow a pioneer trail and settle in Cheyenne, Wyoming in October 1959. She was the typical mother and homemaker of the 1950s and 1960s. When her oldest child left for college, she started volunteering at the Red Cross which developed office skills that eventually provided her employment with Laramie County School District #1 for 22 years. Most of those years were spent as a Library Clerk at Carey Junior High and, as well as selling tickets to East High Athletic Events.

In 1981, Lucienne became a paraplegic, but additional medical opinions, surgery, determination, physical therapists and a miracle enabled her to walk again.

Lucienne loved shopping and would happily provide others with new outfits, toys, books, plants, or armbands for the carnival at Frontier Days. Be careful what you wished for in front of her, she might make it come true. She loved gardening and filled her yard with numerous purple flowers. She made sure her children learned to swim because she was afraid of the water and hoped they would not share the same fear. She loved to collect unicorns, and in later years, a visit with her often prompted the gift of one of her figurines. Her lifelong hobby of reading prompted her to make sure her children always had books. When a friend published their first book, Lucienne bought twelve copies to give to others. In the early 90s, she began keeping track of the title and authors of the books she read, over 2200 books as of this year. Numerous bookstores and Amazon have lost a faithful customer. The Post Office has also lost a loyal patron as she enjoyed sending cards to family and friends throughout the country.

Her loyalty to the Pittsburgh Steelers never faltered. She enjoyed watching the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team, the Denver Nuggets, competitive figure skating, and recently, the Indiana Fever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her three brothers, Ray, Harold, and Paul.

She is survived by her children and their partners: Tom and Linda, John and Louise, Sarah and Stewart, Jim and his Husky, Sadie; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, three very special nieces, Sherri, Sharon, and Stacy and their families, in addition to other nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider wearing purple for a day or buying a book, reading it, and giving it to a friend.

Graveside Services will be at Lakeview Cemetery on Friday, December 12 at 1 PM.
