Lucila Correa
Lucila Correa, born on July 9, 1930, in Medellin, Colombia, passed away on March 2, 2026, in Fairfield, CT, after a long illness. She resided at Ludlowe Health and Rehabilitation in Fairfield, CT.
Lucila immigrated to America with a Working Visa in 1965 and became a Naturalized American citizen in 1979. She lived and worked in Westport, CT, for Bruck Industries. In 1977, she moved to Norwalk, CT, where she worked for Mitchell's of Westport as a seamstress in their Tailor Shop. Lucila fully retired at age 73 and moved to Ludlow Commons in Norwalk, CT.
A woman of many talents, Lucila had a wonderful green thumb and a love for houseplants. She enjoyed cooking Colombian specialties, especially for her grandsons. Keeping active was important to her; she loved walking for miles at a time, often on the sand at Calf Pasture Beach, where she would say, "that's what my doctor always told me" about getting at least "20 minutes" or more of sun.
Sewing was both her major hobby and profession. Lucila attended The French Fashion Academy in Manhattan, NYC, where she successfully completed a certificate in Pattern Design. With passion, she could design and sew her own patterns. Lucila would shop at expensive stores, buy an outfit she loved, take it home, take it apart, copy the pattern, put the outfit back together perfectly, and return it to the store looking brand new-then she would make the outfit with a "better" fabric.
Always eager to learn new things, Lucila encouraged everyone to keep learning as well. She would watch and help her daughter with projects and arts and crafts, then go home and create something with her new knowledge.
Lucila had a deep appreciation for music and the arts. She loved watching operas at the Metropolitan Opera House or on TV, enjoyed orchestral and classical music, and listened to her extensive collection of vinyl albums, which included her favorite Colombian and Spanish music, such as Los Churumbeles, Bolero, Pepe Aguirre, Enrique Rodriguez, and Julio Iglesias, as well as American music by Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley. She kept up with the news every day, was engaged in politics, and would not miss voting days once she became a Naturalized USA citizen. Sports were also a passion for her, as she enjoyed watching golf, horse racing, baseball, soccer/Futbol, gymnastics, and all Olympic sports.
Lucila is survived by her only daughter, Maria V. Paul, and her husband, Michael R. Paul; grandsons, Michael R. Paul, Jr. and Stephen A. Paul; Michael's sister Ellen Pitoniak and her husband John Pitoniak; their children: Ryan Pitoniak and his wife Lynne Pitoniak, their children, Emma and Jack, and Lora Pitoniak Hayes and her son, Dylan Hayes; niece Marta Lopez and nephew Francisco J. Lopez; grandnephews and grandnieces: Christian Echeveria and his wife Erika and their three sons, Philip Cardona, Nicole Cardona, and Stephanie Cardona Ramirez and Jonathan Ramirez and her three sons.
