Lucila Ortega, born in Falfurrias TX, beloved wife and mother and a member of the community of Bishop, TX sadly passed on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the age of 99. She lived a life of service and kindness, devoted to family and home.
In her years of service to the lord, she served St. James church, Bishop, TX as a Sunday Schoolteacher to prepare the children for their first communion. Also, where the size of the congregation or the pastoral needs of the community required additional assistance in the distribution of the Eucharist, lay people or known as the laity, Lucila Ortega, as member of the faith, underwent training and formation to prepare her for the distribution of communion with reverence, humility, and a deep understanding of the sacramental significance of the eucharist.
Lucila Ortega was a true servant of the lord.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eliseo Ortega Sr.;daughter, Audelia Jenkins; son, Eliseo Ortega Jr.; parents, Maria (Solis) Garcia and Jesus Garcia; sisters, Celia Gonzales; and brother, Jose Garcia.
She is survived by her daughter, Alicia (Jerry) Hudson of Godley,TX; son, Rene (Melissa) Ortega of Bedford, TX; daughter-in-law, Irma Ortega of Bishop, Tx,; son-in-law, James Serafin of Corpus Christi, TX,; sister-in-law, Estolia Garcia of Alice, TX,; sisters, Consuelo Martinez of Edinburg TX, Cristela Orta ofAgua Dulce, TX, Elida Rosales of Saginaw, Michigan, Ilmarrosa (Roberto) Tagle, of Robstown, TX; brother, Jesus Garcia Jr ofAlice, TX.; 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 46 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church, Bishop, TX. A rite of committal and interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery, Bishop, TX.
