Lucile Stanfield Obituary

LUCILE IONE STANFIELD
November 5, 1929 ˜ July 25, 2023

Born to Mildred and Martin Sundem eight days after the big Wall Street crash, Nov. 5, 1929, she died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 93.
Lucile spent her childhood years on a 40 acre farm in Felida, WA, that Whipple Creek ran through. She graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1947.
She had an amazing sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her favorite corny joke was “I always wanted to be a comedian, but people laughed at the idea.” She was curious about the world, and traveled it extensively.
Lucile was a woman’s libber, without giving it the label. She raised five kids on her own. Got a job at Alcoa, and eventually became head of trafficking, at a time when women didn’t usually get jobs like that. She was president for the Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and a big advocate for them. She even testified before congress about much needed changes.
She was a force to be reckoned with. To say she will be missed is an understatement.
