Lucille Barrett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ready Funeral & Cremation Services - South Chapel on Mar. 25, 2025.
Lucille M. Barrett, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, has left this world and is on her next spiritual journey.
She was born on August 4, 1932, in Charlotte, VT, the second of six children of the late Aurthur and Cecile Roberts. She spent her time working on the farm and helping her mother with household chores until she graduated from Shelburne High School.
Lucille married the love of her life, Luke G. Barrett in 1952 and moved to Winooski to start her family. She created an open-door home for all as there was never a dull moment at the Barrett house on Audette Street. She enjoyed having her children and many of the neighborhood kids in her home after sledding and skating. She was well known as Ma Barrett and was loved by all.
She was employed by VSAC until her retirement. She could be seen most days walking to work. She enjoyed many winter months in Florida with her brother and sister. She especially loved spending time at Wells Beach with all her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved playing cards with family and friends. She was a huge hockey fan (Boston Bruins) and spent many hours watching her son, grandson, and great-grandchildren play the game.
Lucille moved to Mansfield Place assisted living three years ago where she met many friends and enjoyed chatting with her Gal Pals. The Barrett family cannot say enough about the love and care given to her by the entire staff.
She is survived by her children, Michael Barrett (MJ), Eileen Roberts (Ray), Mark Barrett (Niki), and Rick Barrett (Carol); grandchildren, Christy Hagios, Becky Dion, Jessica Guay, Bethany Barrett, Kelly Laplume, Sean Barrett, and Nathan Barrett; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers Leo, Gerald (Suzanne), and George (Sandy) Roberts; and her sister, Pauline (Bruce) Kennedy.
Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Luke G. Barrett in 1963; her parents; sister, Alice Hill; and brother-in-law, Allen Hill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 10th at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 3 Saint Peter Street, Winooski, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lucille's name may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
Arrangements are in the care of Ready Funeral & Cremation Services.

I had the privilege of working with Lucille most of her career at VSAC. She had an amazing positive attitude and was a fun person who enjoyed everyday !
She started as a part-time team member in the grant program and never left until retirement. A day does not go bye that I don't miss the VSAC team!

I worked with Lu B for many years at VSAC and even though I hadn't seen her much since her retirement, I thought of her often. Those thoughts and memories always put a smile on my face. She was one-in-a-million, and I am forever thankful our paths crossed. My condolences to all who loved her...

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Lucille at VSAC. She had a work ethic that couldn't be beat, a fierce love of family and friends, and a laugh that made us all smile. It makes my heart happy knowing she had so many years of retirement to enjoy all of her favorite things.

I worked with Lucille for over 40 years at VSAC. We met when her niece, Lucille, brought her to work at VSAC. Lucille always had a positive outlook on life and was fun to work with . I glad she had many years in retirement to continue enjoying life. Lucille's work made a difference in the lives of Vermonters! Thank you Lucille!

I was one of the many lucky kids who was welcome at Mrs. Barrett´s home. A great lady, she was indeed.
Sympathy to the family, especially Mark.
So many great memories.
