Lucille Benoit Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marshall Funeral Home and Cremations on Feb. 7, 2026.
Lucille Frances Benoit was a native of Algiers in New Orleans, LA, and a longtime resident of Long Beach, MS. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. As part of a military family, Lucille raised her children through numerous moves, creating a sense of home wherever life took them. She was active in the church and brought creativity into her family's life through her love of arts and crafts, often keeping everyone involved in projects during each new chapter. Lucille Benoit passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026 in Gulfport, MS at the age of 87.

Lucille enjoyed cooking and was always willing to try new dishes and recipes. She was an avid gardener and plant enthusiast, with a special love for her Christmas cactuses and plumerias. Her love of animals, especially her dogs and cats, was well known among family and friends. Even in her later years, as her health declined, she remained more concerned about their well-being than her own.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gilbert "Sunny" Lomax, her parents, Christopher and Frances North Benoit and her sisters, Yvonne Sanders and Valerie Warkoski.

She is survived by her sons: Lionel E. Lomax, Kirk A. Lomax and Gerald R. Lomax; and her beloved granddaughter: Rhiannon Dixie Lomax.

Lucille was a special lady who left an indelible impression on everyone who met her. She will be missed greatly among her friends, her sons, her granddaughter, her nieces and nephews, and her cousins. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her creativity, and her devotion to animals.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite animal-based charity.
