Lucille Whipper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Funeral Services, LLC - Holly Hill on Aug. 28, 2023.
Lucille Murray Whipper, affectionately known as "Nina" and "Knute," was born on July 9, 1935, to the late William Murray Jr. and Rosetta Stokes Murray. As a devout Christian, her love for the Lord began at Chapel Memorial AME Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
Mrs. Whipper attended Waverly Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School. While attending high school, Mrs. Whipper especially enjoyed acting, being a majorette, and she was an avid reader. After graduation from high school, she attended Columbia Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She attended the Baptist Educational Center located in New York, where she studied Christian education. She later attended IONA College in New Rochelle, New York, and received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She was a passionate learner and was always excited and eager to share her knowledge with others.
Mrs. Whipper met Benjamin J. Whipper Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina, in 1955 in Columbia, South Carolina, where they were in school. They joined in holy matrimony in 1957, and the union lasted over 65 years. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, and she loved God and her family more than anything else. Her commitment to growing, maintaining, and loving her family is her legacy. Mrs. Whipper had been the first lady since 1961 until 2017, as she was the epitome of class and style while always guiding her children and other youth through her biblical teachings. She had a mission in Haiti, taught Sunday school, and headed the women's ministry in New York at the Jehovah Jireh Baptist Church. She was an active member of the ministers' wives for over 40 years, and she loved to travel around the world to participate with them. Aruba was her favorite destination when traveling with her husband.
Mrs. Whipper is survived by her husband, Reverend Dr. Benjamin J. Whipper Jr., daughters LaDonna E. Whipper, Camille D. Whipper, and Deborah O. Whipper (Charles), son Herman Chisholm Whipper (Ladonya), sister Minnie L. Johnson (Robert Johnson), brother Lehman Anderson (Francina), a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by sons Benjamin J. Whipper III and Prince Murray Whipper.
