Lucy Blackham Obituary

Myrna Lucy Jenson Legg Blackham, 94, passed away on October 15, 2025.

Lucy was born April 2, 1931, to Neils and Irene Wayman Jenson in their Rexburg Idaho home. The youngest daughter with 8 other siblings enjoyed a wonderful life on the farm, with plenty of animals and more than enough chores for all. Mom graduated from LDS Seminary in 1948 and from Madison High School in May 1949. She then graduated from the Logan LDS Hospital of Nursing in 1952 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Utah State University in June 1953.

Working in Nursing with good friends, mom slowly made her way to Washington D.C. and lived with her older sister Iris. She worked at Georgetown University Hospital, and there would meet her husband John Preston Legg and start a family which would include 4 sons. In 1957, she received a call from President John L. Clarke at Ricks College and was offered and accepted a position in the newly formed Nursing Department.

Mom continued with her education and received a Master's Degree from The University of Oregon in June 1966. Mom was an active member of the Idaho Commission of Nursing and Nursing Education, past Vice Chairman, and member of the Board of Directors, along with the position of Department Chair at Ricks College from 1969 - 1979. She was devoted to the profession and always seeking ways to strengthen the program. Division Chairman Dr. Cleve Winkel at Ricks believed that "a lot of credit was due to Sister Legg for the progress and success of the program". Ricks College would be home for 32 years of her life until she retired in May 1988.

Eventually, after years of being alone, mom would become acquainted with and marry Thomas Jack Blackham in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in June 1987. Together they would serve 6 LDS missions and serve as Temple Ordinance workers when at home. Mom is a valiant servant of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She has served many church callings, always looking for ways to help others. Her life was one of service. Her love for the Savior is an example to us all.

Mom is survived by her brother Kent (Judy), sons, Mike (Susan), Tim (Karla), Jeff (Sandra) and stepchildren: Scott (Mary), Gary (Karen), Ann Barnes (Kevin), Carol Thorpe (Thad), Alan (Kimberly), and Becky Jenson (Gary), 41 Grandchildren, 98 Great Grandchildren, and 11 Great Great Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her first husband John Preston Legg, her second husband Thomas Jack Blackham, her youngest son Scott Randall Legg, and a great grand-daughter Celeste Hope Wheeler. Her eternal family in Heaven also includes her parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Mom, we love you and will miss your "Jenson" smile!
