Lucy DeRoos Obituary
Lucille Kathryn DeRoos, daughter of Clemens and Mathilda (Gloden) Schmit, was born on January 24, 1938 in Hospers, Iowa. She graduated from St. Anthony's High School in Hospers. On November 17, 1956, Lucy was united in marriage to Dewain John DeRoos. Lucy was a devoted wife and mother and loved her career as a homemaker. She was the backbone of the family and never complained once. It became evident in her employment with Home Health Care, that helping others came second nature to her. Even after retirement, Lucy was helping others that she previously cared for.
Lucy was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and the Garden Club. She took pride in raising her gardens. Lucy loved packing up the family and going on many camping trips. Her life long enjoyment was taking care of her family and others.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kevin (Jennifer) DeRoos of Dallas Center, Alan (Tina) DeRoos of Algona, Pam (Drew) Fett of Thompson and Jason (Mary) DeRoos of West Des Moines; her grandchildren: Caleb DeRoos, Jessie Redmann, Colby Fett, Ryan Fett, Erin Fett, Alec Fett, Jordan DeRoos and Cameron DeRoos; eight great grandchildren; her siblings: Sylvester Schmit of Hospers, Cyril Schmit of Remsen and Geraldine Den Hartog Hospers; sister-in-law: Beatrice Schmit of Hospers and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Clemens and Mathilda Schmit; husband: Dewain DeRoos; siblings: Harold Schmit, Bernice Block, Eleanor Marie Schmit; brother-in-law: Oscar Block, George Kersten and Neal Den Hartog and sisters-in-law: Germaine Schmit and Clarice Schmit.
