Mrs. Lucy S. Kirby, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away Monday, August 5, 2024, after an extended illness. Lucy was born to the late Edward D. Smith and Minne Lee Johnson in Washington County, Georgia. She was a member of the Hiawassee Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She worked at Carolina Dress for many years as a seamstress and even loved sewing at home where she made a lot of her children’s clothes. She and her husband Gordon met in 1959 in Atlanta, Georgia at a diner where she was waitressing, and have been together 65 wonderful years. She loved cooking, watching "The Wheel of Fortune" and "Little House on the Prairie". One of her biggest joys was getting to watch her grandbabies at any time when they were growing up.She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy Ellen Jasinski; brother, Sammy Johnson; grandson, Russell Watson; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Watson. She is survived by her husband, Gordon Kirby, Jr.; daughters, Kathy Kirby Denton, Tina (Tony) Denton, Donna DeLong, Denise (Jimmie) Carman; son, Tony (Laurie) Kirby; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Johnson. 

Pallbearers: Jesse DeLong, Dylan Kirby, Ryan Carman, Josh Bryant, Brock Denton and Riley Lambert.

Honorary Pallbearers: Ethan Kuykendall, Tony Denton and Jimmy Carman. 

Visitation will be Thursday, August 8 from 11 a.m. until funeral services begin at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at Enotah cemetery.

 Banister-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Kirby.
