Lucy Lizardi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Angelus Chapel Mortuaries on Jan. 15, 2026.
Lucy Lizardi departed this life on January 12, 2026, and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was deeply loved by her family, extended family, and community, and her life was a quiet yet powerful testament to generosity, humility, and love.

Lucy was known for her remarkable skill as a seamstress. Her talent was a gift she freely shared with others altering clothing, sewing communion dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and countless other garments, always charging far less than the true value of her work. Through her hands and her heart, she became a blessing to the entire community. One of her most cherished traditions was making a baby quilt for every newborn child in the family, a lasting symbol of her love that will continue to wrap future generations.

Her home was a place of warmth and welcome. Lucy's kitchen was always open, coffee was always ready, and she humbly offered whatever she had and if you were lucky, it was one of her homemade tortillas. She lived her life rooted in the Salt Creek community, where she was known not only for her generosity but also for her gentle spirit and quiet strength.

Lucy's favorite pastime was bingo. Her bingo friends became an extension of her family, and she cherished those friendships as much as she enjoyed playing and winning the game.

She came from a family of eleven siblings and was a beloved sister to all. Lucy loved family gatherings, she enjoyed telling funny stories based on real-life events, often playfully exposing her siblings' mistakes. One favorite family story involved her brother Manuel, who, upon returning from military service and applying for a job, was asked on an application to indicate his "sex." Misunderstanding the question, he reportedly answered, "Yes, once in Denver" a story Lucy delighted in retelling, always with laughter.

Lucy is survived by her children: Tony and Sharon Vasquez; Vivian and Paul Parker; Loren Lizardi; and Eve Lizardi. Her grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aurelio and Bodica Gomez, all of her siblings, her husband, Ignacio Lizardi; her son, James Lizardi; and her grandchildren, Francisco Lizardi and Andrea Martinez-Duarte.

Lucy Lizardi will be remembered for her loving heart, her generosity, her humor, and the countless ways she quietly enriched the lives of those around her. Her legacy lives on in the stitches she sewed, the stories she told, the quilts she gifted, and the love she gave so freely.
