Lucy Underwood, age 101, of Middlesboro, KY, entered her Heavenly home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. She was born on November 9, 1924, in Middlesboro, KY, to Joe and Ida Miracle Owens, who preceded her in death.
Lucy was a longtime member of Mt. Mary Baptist Church, Middlesboro, KY, who enjoyed singing in the church choir for as long as she was able. She had a true green thumb which she used to tend to her flowers, creating beauty around her home.
In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Underwood; grandchildren, Lonnie Ray Hatfield, Jr. And Junior Owens; and siblings, William Owens, Joe Frank Owens, Dora Barnett, Laura Tuttle, Addeline Coker, Lily May Engle, and Maudie Shackleford.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mable Hatfield, Luster Owens, Ricky Ray Evans, Luther (Bonnie) Owens, and Jeffrey Owens; sister, Stella Evans and special niece, Rosetta Ogle.
She was a beloved great-grandmother to a host of great-grandchildren, including Hunter Hatfield and Amber (James) Halcomb, as well as a great-great-grandmother along with other family members that are too numerous to name. Her legacy will live on in all of them as a testament to the lasting love and impact she leaves behind.
The family of Lucy Underwood will receive friends on Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Gibson presiding. Music will be provided by singers from Mt. Mary Baptist Church, Middlesboro, KY.
Graveside services will follow the funeral service at Yellow Hill Cemetery, Middlesboro, KY.
Pallbearers will be Boone Hall, Sonny Hall, Cody Owens, Caleb Owens, Terry Miracle, and Amber Halcomb.
