Ludovico Soledad Villanueva M.D.

Dr. Ludovico Soledad Villanueva, MD, a distinguished family physician and pillar of the Atlanta medical community, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025. He was 84 years old.
Born on October 12, 1941, in Calamba, Mis. Occidental, Philippines, Ludovico-affectionately known as "Dr. V" to generations of patients and colleagues-pursued his passion for medicine early in life. He earned his medical degree from University of the Philippines and his residency at PGH before immigrating to the United States. Subsequently he completed his Psychiatry residency in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Georgia where he dedicated over four decades to serving the diverse communities of Atlanta and Sandy Springs, practicing at various clinics and providing compassionate, psychiatric care to patients of all ages. While residing in Sandy Springs, he was also involved in various organizations including Sandy Springs Historic Preservation Commission, Sandy Springs Art and Heritage Society Inc. and Leadership Sandy Springs.
A visionary leader in the Filipino-American medical communities, Dr. Villanueva founded the Philippine-American Medical Association of Georgia (PAMAG) in 1976, serving as its inaugural president from 1976 to 1978. Under his guidance, PAMAG became a beacon for continuing medical education, sponsoring scholarships for aspiring Filipino students and leading biennial medical-surgical missions to underserved areas in the Philippines. His efforts bridged cultures and fostered lifelong bonds among healthcare professionals, leaving an indelible mark on global health equity.
Dr. Villanueva was preceded in death by his son Jason Villanueva, and siblings Lorenzo Villanueva, Jr., Luisito Villanueva, Sr., Encarnito Villanueva, and Stella V. Abrasaldo. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Uy, sons Eric Villanueva (Cassi) and Peter Villanueva, daughter Dawn Villanueva Levy, sisters Dahlila Villanueva Wong and Elmira Dejarme, grandchildren Maggie, Micah, Clare, and Cate Villanueva, and Veronica and Robert Levy.
A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday December 6, 2025 at 10 AM at Carmichael Funeral Homes, 2950 King Street, Smyrna GA 30080.
