Luis J Cubelo III

Luis Cubelo, born February 25, 1958, passed away on January 31 surrounded by his loved ones at his home. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Charlene Cubelo. Born in New York and raised both there and in the Ironbound neighborhood of Newark, Lou (affectionately nicknamed 'Big L' by friends and family alike) grew up immersed in Spanish and Italian culture. The child of a Spanish immigrant and a first-generation Italian American, Lou continued his parents' traditions into the lives of his children. Lou and Charlene relocated to Toms River from Essex County in 1983. A devoted husband and family man, Lou and Charlene put their children's happiness at the forefront, including multiple trips to Disney World, his personal 'happy place'. A lover of a good red wine and a quality cigar, Lou revelled in time spent with his family and friends. Lou worked tirelessly as an armored guard for many years before enjoying a retirement he was fortunate enough to begin in his 50s. He is survived by his three children, Luis Cubelo, Lauren Cubelo, and Joseph Cubelo (husband Brandon); brother Michael Cubelo (wife Mindy), sister Mercedes Arater, and sister Frances Smith (husband Vincent), soon-to-be grandson, nephews, and great-nephews. Visitation will be held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd, Toms River, NJ, on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 12:45pm.
