Lula D. Hudson

Lula D Hudson was born in Coy, Alabama on November 23, 1942, to Calvin D and Equilla (née Oates) Hudson. She passed away in peace on April 4, 2024, in Brockton, MA surrounded by her daughter and two youngest sisters. She was the 4th child and 2nd daughter of 9 children. She accepted Christ as a young girl and was baptized at Old Zion Baptist Church. She graduated from Camden Academy in 1961. In November 1962 she moved to Boston, MA. She saw an advertisement for a jobs up North. The job was for young women to work for families with children. After encouragement from her mother, she responded to the ad. She received a bus ticket in the mail. It did not include her destination, only where to board the bus. A few days before her 20th birthday she boarded the bus and left home. She was dropped off at Back Bay Station. She went to work for the Altman family in Brookline, MA. She remained in contact with the family until the deaths of the couple and their only daughter. And continued in contact with their two sons until her death.
Eventually, six of her siblings Calvin Hudson, Walter Hudson (Vickie), Roosevelt Hudson (Nan), James Hudson (Carolyn), Bettye Hudson, and Linda Hudson joined her in Boston. Her eldest sister Earlene Hudson moved to Los Angeles and sister Cora Ann Walker to Mount Vernon, AL.
She only had one child, Kimberly. As a single parent, she strove to ensure Kim had a great education and well-rounded life. She loved her daughter unconditionally.
She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Boston State College. She worked for various employers, including the Therapeutic Center for children with special needs (Brookline) and Brigham and Women's Hospital Design & Construction Department (Boston).
She became a member of St. Angela Catholic Church (Mattapan). During her time there, she was an active member. Including as a Girl Scout Troop Leader.
She also lived in Georgia twice. The first time 1996 – 2001, and again 2006 - 2021. She returned to Massachusetts in July of 2021 where she remained until the time of her death. While in Georgia she attended New Hope Baptist Church (Fayetteville). She was a member of the choir during her initial time in Georgia. She enjoyed attending Wednesday night classes. Her favorite event was the Living Christmas Tree performance held every December.
She believed that your Christian faith was not identified by a denomination. Christian faith is identified by your love of God and walk with Jesus Christ.
Her favorite pastimes were listening to music (Gospel, Classical and R&B), reading, and sewing (until she was unable to sew).
She was predeceased by her mother Equilla Hudson (1967), father Calvin D. Hudson (2001), sister Earlene (2016) and brothers Calvin (2003), Walter (2007) and Rosevelt (2019).
She leaves behind her only child Kimberly Hudson-Wright, sisters Cora Ann Walker of Mobile, AL, Bettye Hudson and Linda Hudson of Brockton. And brother James Hudson of Satsuma, Alabama. And nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, too numerous to mention.
She will be dearly missed.
