Lula Elizabeth (Coleman) Stokes, age 94 passed away from this life February 24, 2026 at her home in Konawa, Oklahoma surrounded by her family and friends. God called another angel home.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate, and Rusty Stokes will deliver the eulogy. Cremation will follow after.
Lula was born August 10, 1931 in Wert, Oklahoma to O.P. Henry Coleman and Lucy Annette (Hooten) Coleman. She married W.R. “Pete” Stokes December 15, 1948 in Denison, Texas. She earned her RN degree in 1981 from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. She worked at the Konawa Nursing Home, Tucker Nursing Home, and later at the New-Horizons Nursing Home in Konawa. She also worked at the Seminole Hospital in Seminole for 18 years. She last worked at the Ada Care Center in Ada for over 16 years.
Lula was preceded in death by both her mother and father; her husband of 52 years, Pete Stokes; five brothers, Curly, Albert, Eddie, Henry, and Mike Coleman; two sisters, Helen Holeman, and Doris Gilliam; one son-in-law, Larry Maly; one grandson, Franklin Daniel Huff; two great grandsons, Alex Ray Huff, and Colten Dean Huff; and one great granddaughter, Stacey Dawn Gray.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children: one son, James “Rusty” and wife, Robin of Konawa; four daughters, Priscilla Lorene Murray and husband, Phillip of Odessa, Texas, Kathyrine “Kitty” Maly of Konawa, Cynthia Ferrell and husband, Carl of Madill, Oklahoma; Anita Huff and husband, Frank of Madill, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 38 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and one sister, Elise Dockter of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
