Luther Ellis Ledford Jr., 88, of Pink Hill, passed away peacefully Sunday August 24, 2025. A man of quiet strength, deep devotion and an infectious sense of humor, lived a life marked by service, love, and dedication to his community.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Turner Ledford; his son, Luther Ellis Ledford III and sister-in-law Nancy Ledford.

Luther is survived by his son, Tim Ledford, and wife, Miriam; his daughter-in-law, Lynn Ledford of Greenville; his cherished granddaughters, Coley Edsall (Dave), Abigail Delia (Jordan) of Greenville and Mallory Kennedy (Ty) of Deep Run; grandson, Joshua Ledford of Alaska. He was also blessed with four great-granddaughters Mary Harper Edsall, Allyson James Edsall, Emma Marie Kennedy, and Laura Beth Kennedy. Luther is also survived by his brothers, Joe Ledford (Julia) and Keith Ledford; nephews, Michael Ledford and Andy Ledford; nieces, Teresa Ledford, Katherine Baldwin and Elizabeth Hardee.

Luther was a graduate of Wake Forest University and a devoted Demon Deacon supporter. He enjoyed many years going to football games and basketball games with friends and family.

Known as "Mr. Bank", Luther dedicated 38 years of his professional life to First Citizens Bank, where his commitment, integrity, and work ethic earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike.

He was a respected and influential member of the Lenoir County community and served prominently on many boards throughout his life. He had a special love for the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, where he served for many years as a devoted Scoutmaster, mentoring countless young men and instilling in them the values of leadership, service, and integrity. His leadership, wisdom, and steady guidance left an enduring mark on the county and on all those who worked alongside him. He leaves a legacy that will continue through the lives of those he touched.

Luther was a longtime member of Pink Hill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Pink Hill United Methodist Church in c/o Carolyn Whitfield, 313 N Central Ave., Pink Hill, NC 28572

Visitation will be Tuesday August 26, 2025 from 6-8 pm at Pink Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home of Tim and Miriam Ledford, 105 Park Circle. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, August 27 at 10 AM with burial immediately following at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.

The family would like to thank Nan, "Chilly" Kennedy and the many caretakers at Lenoir Assisted Living for the care and love they showed Luther.
