Luther Anderson Weadon

1943 - 2024

Luther Anderson (Andy) Weadon, age 80, passed peacefully at home in Chantilly, VA, on Monday, January 8, 2024. He was born on March 10, 1943, in Aiken, SC, son of the late Nimrod. Ashby Weadon, from Weadon Ridge, Orlean, VA, and the late Mattie Ellen Wright Weadon of Aiken, SC, who married in 1939.
Andy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife Emily. Andy is survived by his daughter, Sharon Weadon Shand and son-in-law William (Bill) Shand of Chantilly, VA; his grandson William (Billy) Shand, Jr, of New London, CT; and his granddaughter Natalie Shand, of Auburn, AL.
Andy grew up in Aiken, SC, and graduated from Aiken High School in 1961. He graduated with an associate degree in engineering technology from West Virginia University Institute of Technology, Montgomery, WV, in 1965. Andy worked full time while taking classes at night and graduated with his bachelor's degree in business management from University of Charleston (Morris Harvey College), Charleston, WV, in 1973.
Andy married Aleta Norosky in September 1964. They welcomed their daughter Sharon in July 1965 and lived in Goldtown, WV before moving to Vienna, VA in 1975. Andy's marriage to Aleta ended in divorce in 1986.
Andy married the late Emily H. Weadon in 2009, and they lived in Chambersburg, PA. They enjoyed traveling, antiquing, and riding the Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia prior to Emily's passing in 2014.
After 35 years in the telephone business, Andy retired as a Systems Strategic Planning Manager from Verizon, known during his career as C&P Telephone Company and Bell Atlantic. Accomplishments include working on a team responsible for changing telephone systems from the rotary dial system to touch tone and working with fiber optics.
Andy cherished spending summers in Conde, Virginia with his Aunt Mary Lee Weadon Ashby, Uncle John Ashby, Uncle Charles, cousins, and friends. Andy was full of adventure. At the age of 16, he drove his Volkswagen Beetle with a friend, from Aiken, SC across the United States to California. Traveling throughout the United States and across Europe was a lifelong passion. He enjoyed country dancing and music of all genre, especially bluegrass. He often travelled to the annual "Old Fiddlers Convention" in Galax, Virginia. At the age of 80, just a few months prior to his passing, he drove his car to visit friends in Florida and family in South Carolina.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Orlean Baptist Church, 6575 John Barton Payne Road, Marshall, VA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, by Pastor Randy West. Burial at Orlean Cemetery. Reception to follow at Orlean Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
