Luvonne Cox Salyers (March 16, 1944 - January 27, 2025)
Luvonne Cox Salyers, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at her Abingdon, VA home on January 27, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born in Raven, Tazewell County, VA, Luvonne was the daughter of Orville Curtis Cox and Effie Lou Simmons. She attended public schools in Red Ash, Raven, and Richlands, VA.
Luvonne married her beloved husband, Benjamin (Sal) Salyers, and together they shared over 60 years of love, laughter, and adventure. They started their married life as young newlyweds in Alexandria, VA, and raised their family in Dale City, VA, before settling in Abingdon. A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Luvonne's greatest joy was spending time with her cherished family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Benjamin; her daughter Deneim Salyers Brown and her husband Jeff; her son Mark Salyers; her daughter Jill Salyers Fields; six grandchildren - Sarah Munoz and her husband David, Berkley Fields, Allison Brown and her husband Joel Mabanza, Tyler Fields, Ryan Brown, and Madilyn Fields; and two great-grandchildren Leo Munoz and Stella Mabanza.
Luvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Effie Lou; her three brothers Don Cox, Harold Cox, and Dean Cox; and her two sisters Loretta Helton and Mary Sue Gravitt.
A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (13 Heritage Drive, Bristol, VA) on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery (5550 Bagging Plant Road, Dublin, VA) on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 10:00 am.
