Lyle Dean Bald, son of Walter and Verna (Hell) Bald, was born on March 18, 1945, in Lincoln Township, Iowa. He grew up on a farm south of Manning and attended Manning Schools, graduating with the Class of 1963. After high school, Lyle worked on the family farm while also being employed by Cam Ross Signs in Audubon. He later took a position at the Ford Garage in Manning. In addition to his other work, Lyle farmed alongside his family and raised cattle near the family farm until 1976. He married Jane Johnson in 1964, and together they welcomed their daughter, Cami.

Over the years, he hired several employees, including Joe Karsten and Keith Misselhorn. He later sold the business to Dan Lorenzen and transitioned to operating the Double Tree Bar in Manning. During this time, Lyle was married to Marlene Jensen, and together they had a son, Chad W. Bald. While running the bar, he also worked as a cement truck driver until the 1980s. Lyle then embarked on a trucking career, working with Wayne Schroeder for many years.
On June 11, 1988, he married Arlene Sands at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, and the couple settled in Aspinwall, Iowa. Lyle and his son worked for Aspinwall Co-op for several years before driving truck for George Brincks.
Lyle served as captain of the Manning Fire Department and was fire chief for several years. He was also an active member of Iowa Chapter #5 IH Club and the Midwest Iowa Old Iron Club and Red Rock Threshers. Lyle also served as mayor for a few years of Aspinwall.
