Lyle D. Brudvig, 85, of Dickinson, passed away, Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck, ND.

Lyle Darrel was born in Griggs County, ND on July 30, 1940, the son of Helmer Johanes and Rose Gunhild (Aalgaard) Brudvig. Growing up he attended school in Cooperstown and graduated with the class of 1958. Following graduation, Lyle joined the US Air Force and was stationed at the Aviano Air Force Base in Italy. He later continued his military service for an additional 21 years. Lyle retired as First Sergeant in 1993 from the 815th Medical Company NDARNG.

After serving in the Air Force, Lyle attended Mayville State College and met the love of his life, Darlyne Johnson. They were married on June 10, 1966 in Grand Forks. Their marriage was blessed with one son and four daughters. Lyle attended Moorhead State University, graduating with a Business Education degree. He also attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. After trying out several different job opportunities, Lyle found his passion and dedicated 25 years of his life as a Nursing Home Administrator/CEO, supervising pivotal care in the clinical and administrative affairs at St. Luke's Home in Dickinson, a role that reflected his caring nature and genuine love for people. He was especially proud to lead the planning and building of Park Avenue Villa. Lyle was honored at the North Dakota Association for Long Term Care annual meeting in 1998 as the state's top administrator. Through his work he touched many lives.

Lyle was blessed with five children and was a proud grandfather of four grandchildren. Lyle cherished the time spent with his family. He enjoyed the outdoors especially camping, canoeing, and fishing, even if he occasionally forgot essentials like water or sunscreen. He had a strong interest in North Dakota history. There isn't a historical marker alongside the road that he did not stop to read.

He had a special love for animals, including the many cats, dogs, and family pets that were part of his life. Lyle enjoyed dabbling on computers, playing video games, watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings, playing games and cards with family and friends, and spending hours tinkering in the garage, which became his favorite retreat.

He was deeply proud of his time in the service and always had a story to share, whether from his military days, or about life on the farm. Lyle was a member of the American Legion Post 3, Dickinson Elks Lodge #1137 and was a past member of the Dickinson Rotary Club, Dickinson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the United Way Board. His faith was an important part of his life, and he participated in men's Bible study, served as an usher for many years and was a member of the Trust Fund Committee at St. John Lutheran Church.

Lyle will be remembered for his warm personality, jovial nature, his stories, his service to others, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lyle is survived by his five children; Erica (Scott) Karsky of Dickinson, Aaron Brudvig of Dickinson, Andrea Brudvig (Jeremy Swisher) of Grand Forks, Alicia (Steve) Focht of Dickinson, and Amanda (Andy) Blankenship of Rosemount, MN; and four grandchildren, Gannon Karsky (Lexi Volkert), Logan Karsky (Gabby Knopik), Ferris and Everly Blankenship; and brother Harvey (Kay) Brudvig of Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Darlyne; parents, Helmer and Rose Brudvig; brothers, Dale, Leland, and Duane Brudvig.

In accordance with Lyle's wishes, cremation has taken place and a service for family and friends will be held at a later date, with interment to follow at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Lyle's family suggests memorials to the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery.
