Lyle L. Luce, age 77 of Painted Post, NY died on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Bath VA. Lyle Luce was born on March 24, 1948, in Wellsville, NY, the son of the late Edwin G. Luce and Roberta Burgett.
After graduating from high school, Lyle proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He continued his commitment to the military through service in both the Army and Navy Reserves, retiring in 2002. He remained a member of the Corning American Legion, Post 746 for a number of years.
Lyle earned a degree in Business from Corning Community College. On December 29, 1972, he married the love of his life, Shirley Gage. He worked for many years as a glass cutter at Corning, Inc., retiring in 2002.
Lyle will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his love of dining out, and his enjoyment of travel and long car rides. Above all, he deeply loved his family.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of Painted Post, NY; daughter, Amanda (Chris) Hedman of North Carolina; brothers: Randolph Sherwood of Brockport, NY, Ed, Jr. (Nancy) Luce of Arizona, Mark (Arnett) Luce of Florida, Greg Luce; sisters: Debbie Spatula of Brockport, NY, Gail Ryerson of Texas, Amy (Bill) Burr of Texas; sisters-in-law: Pat Breon, Phyllis (Gerald) McDonald, Roberta Gage; brother-in-law, Larry Gage; several nieces and nephews; and special dog, Mia.
In addition to his parents, Lyle was predeceased by his step-father, Clarence Sherwood; and brothers: Rick Luce and Michael Sherwood.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with full military honors on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Bath National Cemetery, San Juan Ave., Bath, NY. Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with Lyle's care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lyle's name may be sent to the Fingerlakes SPCA, 72 Cameron St, Bath, NY 14810. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Lyle, please visit our floral store.
